Some Assembly Required!

Since neither Justin, nor I, had accumulated much furniture before we were married, it was pretty much up to us to fill our house with the things it needed.

For one, the bar/peninsula in our kitchen needed bar stools so we got some from Justin's sister for Christmas. And of course with any new piece of furniture, you have to put it together. These stools from Target were pretty easy to put together.

And they proved to be extremely useful when we needed the extra seating during our Super Bowl party. It provided guests with stadium-like seating in our living room, lol...

Next, we ordered a coat rack from Pottery Barn using some gift cards we had received from our wedding. Yes, I know we married over a year and a half ago, but I guess I was waiting to make the right purchase!

This item proved easy to put together as well because it consisted of only a top and bottom (Can you spot the Louie?).

Here is a picture of the fully assembled coat rack from the Pottery Barn website (of course ours isn't as tidy as this picture. Ours is crammed with coats, scarfs and such). I liked it for its clean and simple lines as many coat racks are adorned with ugly curly-cues:

The last thing that we Justin put together was the Parker Spirits Cabinet from Crate and Barrel (again purchased with wedding and holiday gift cards). This item proved be the most challenging thing to put together.

The evening started off okay when Justin finished putting together the base...

However, when some of the holes weren't lining up he had to bust out the drill and ended up cracking the particle board in one area...whoopsy...I think he was close to karate chopping the whole thing...

45 minutes later the holes still weren't lining up so we said screw it (no pun intended) and just put the rest of it together. Although putting it together was a pain in the butt, I'm happy with the finished product and I think it looks great below the United Plates of America pictures we have in our dining room. Now all we need to do is fill the cabinet with alcohol, lol...

Have you went on a furniture purchasing frenzy only to come home and realize that parts of the furniture just aren't fitting together? Although, we hit a snag with our bar cabinet, I still consider Justin a hex key wielding expert!

Super Sports Weekends

Hello Everyone! Did everyone have a good weekend? As for myself, I've been having some pretty good sports watching weekends!

A couple weekends ago my friend invited Justin and I to watch my alma mater, the Maryland Terrapins, play the Virgina Tech Hokies. His company had some extra seats in their suite and he was kind enough to bring us along. The Terps kept a lead throughout most of the game until the last minute or so when VaTech was trying to make a comeback on fouls/missed free throws. Yikes. It was amazing to see the student section get all pumped and it made me wonder if they knew about the "glory days." During the time I went to UMD the Men's Basketball team made several Final Four appearances, and of course won the 2002 NCAA Championship. Ahhh, forgive me for sounding wistful for the "good old days." Anyway, they managed to pull out a win and here's a (blurry) shot of Sean Mosley hitting a three.

In other sports watching news, did you watch the Super Bowl? I did and I was rooting for the Giants just for the day. It's probably because I wanted some validation for the two wins the Redskins had against them in the regular season, but as we all know, it's not about regular season records, it's about what team is on a hot streak at the right time.

Justin and I hosted our first Super Bowl party at our house. Unfortunately, I don't have any good pictures "group" shots but we were able to cram over 20 people in our tiny living room. People were sitting on the floor, chairs, and even stools. We were definitely sardines!

Question: How many people do you see in the picture below?

If you said 8 you'd be absolutely right!

Oh, well, that's closed floor plan for you. We had a pretty good food spread (sorry I don't have pics of that either) and everyone had a good time. If we host another Super Bowl party in the future I'd like to put another TV in the dining room/kitchen just so everyone isn't so packed in the living room.

Our TV Debut: Part Deux

Hello Everybody! Are you enjoying the unseasonably warm weather too? I'm not much of a winter person and I'm ready for full-on Spring!

As the title suggests, Justin and I are going to be on television again. We are doing House Hunters...again! No, we are not moving out of our current house (heck I feel like we just moved in!), but the producers approached us in regards to doing a specific episode.

Basically, the way our episode left off was with us and our unfinished kitchen. We were sitting on our stoop eating Thai food remember? You never got to see if Justin got his "dream kitchen" (he did) or if our contractor was able to put the cabinets up by Thursday as promised (he didn't). Last winter, one of the House Hunters producers called us and asked us if we would be interested in doing a special "Where are they Now?" episode in which we would be one of the several families featured..
Unlike before, it would only take one day of filming as opposed to the five days it took to film our episode and they would be paying us the same amount as before, but for less time. Yipee! (*Note: We're not in it for the money because this definitely doesn't pay any big bucks ;)

I gave them our availability to shoot for the next couple months and the day after I sent them that email they were able to find a crew to shoot us next Saturday, February 11. Dang, they move fast!
I'm kind of glad we're doing the shoot sooner rather than later, but I feel that we still have a lot of work to do around the house (fixing the french doors, getting more rugs, putting more pictures up, etc.). In that sense it's more realistic since this is our first home together and it's not like we had a lot of furniture and decor items to begin with. Filling a house with the right things and getting through the to-do list takes time, so I guess you guys will get a good view of our transition from newlywed homeowners to married couple making a home.

After all, if you watched the episode and saw our house was done, decorated and finished, why would you read this blog? Lol...
